The
Making of Teen Idol Tom:
Justin Viggiano used the numerous
auditoriums, courtyards, and buildings of the University of
the Arts in Philadelphia for his depiction of the imaginary
Font Foundling Home and the powerful and singular arts
academy in a fictitious United States, the Font School.
Shots of the atrium and many hallways were taken at
Medford Leas, in Medford, New Jersey. The Manayunk Diner
bar was also used in the escape scene, and the “heating
vent” in the final chase scene, was painstakingly built
for the
shoot in a North Philadelphia warehouse.
Many exterior city shots were taken in Center City,
Philadephia, and country field and forest shots in Medford,
New Jersey.

Cast And Crew Activities:
Justin and the cast
and crew took a celebratory break from the rigors of filming
Teen Idol Tom in June of 2007 at the Six Flags amusement park in
New Jersey.

Other Projects:
In 2006-2007, Justin also worked as 1st AD (assistant
director) and producer on Lise Raven’s drama,
Stride,
currently in post-production.
Stride tells the poignant story of a woman solider
returning home from the horror of war in Iraq, to her
troubled family and friends in a provincial, city
neighborhood in Philadelphia. Justin also hosted a St.
Patrick’s Day fundraiser to raise money for the production.

The Green Reaper:
Currently in production, Justin Viggiano’s new film
short, The Green Reaper, is a suspense drama about a boy
with peculiar powers that pertain to plants, and gives
audiences a taste of the dynamic feature film to follow.
Does Henry Root have a curious connection with the
plant world that gives him the power to save or take
lives, or is there another sinister reason that the
reaper’s scythe falls so suddenly on the innocent?
The Green Reaper gives a glimpse of Henry’s perilous
existence, and the choices he must make to live in his
thorny, green and unforgiving world.

Equipment:
Along with standard film equipment,
such as camera, lights, monitor, reflectors and a crane,
several dollies have been created for Justin to portray
tracking and moving shots more effectively.
Rigid and flexible, lightweight plastic pipes are used as
portable track for this equipment. Justin uses a tabletop
dolly for mid-line shots, and a platform dolly fitted with a
tripod for quick tracking shots.
Currently completed is a larger dolly with a camera perch
that moves swiftly up and down vertically, as the dolly
tracks horizontally. A skateboard cam is used for low,
tight spots, such as in the “heating vents” in Teen Idol
Tom.
